Wastewater load
Individual onsite wastewater planning
Size the load. Trace the assumptions. Test the site.
A transparent preliminary design workspace for septic tank capacity, conceptual geometry, soil absorption area and installation planning.
Sample Data Lab
Load a complete source-based test case
Each sample populates every major input so you can test, modify and compare results before entering real project information.
Select a case to preview it. Your current project changes only after you click Load selected sample.
Its public inputs, illustrative assumptions, expected result and source will appear here without changing your current project.
Public values and illustrative assumptions are separated for the selected sample. Exact trench layouts for the Washington cases come from the listed test geometry. Louisiana’s layout uses an illustrative percolation result with the state’s published line-length table. Replace every illustrative value and confirm all public values with the approving authority before real use.

Current status: Site data needed
The displayed allowances are editable planning values. Enter the approving authority and replace every value that differs from its current rules.
Apartment systems commonly require an engineered distribution design, special operating approval, or treatment beyond a conventional single-home system.
Confirm that the field-sizing basis comes from the required site/soil evaluation and the approving authority to release the field result.
The calculated tank envelope is conceptual. Enter the selected manufacturer's approved exterior dimensions before relying on the detailed planning view for coordination.

| Conveyance | Solid tank-to-distribution pipe4 in solid pipe; final class and joints per approved plan | 30 ft entered run | 33 ft | Planning allowance | 10% planning allowance; verify distribution-component location and all fittings. |
| Distribution | Gravity distribution componentLevel distribution box or other authority-approved equal-distribution detail | 1 planning location · outlet count withheld | 1 selected component · fittings TBD | Selected product | The authority may require a distribution box or another approved method; product, outlet seals and elevation controls are not selected. |
| Drainfield | Perforated field lateral pipe4 in perforated pipe; layout withheld | Withheld | TBD | Withheld | Accepted soil / percolation basis is required before field materials are released. |
| Drainfield | Lateral ends, inspection ports and connectionsCaps, ports, adapters, seals and flow-leveling parts per approved distribution detail | TBD | Exact fittings and counts TBD | Verify on site | Product geometry, stock lengths, cleanout detail and approved distribution method control the takeoff. |
| Drainfield | Approved clean aggregate0.5 in–2.5 in entered size range; full-width rectangular media envelope less pipe displacement | Withheld | Withheld | Withheld | Accepted soil / percolation basis and field geometry are required before estimating media. |
| Drainfield | Permit-approved pervious cover materialPlaced over aggregate; product type, roll width, laps and edge detail require approval | Withheld | Withheld | Withheld | 10% is a planning allowance only; verify that the selected paper, fabric or other pervious barrier is accepted locally. |
| Earthwork | Suitable pervious soil cover and overfillRectangular cover plus a transparent triangular 5 in crown approximation | Withheld | Withheld | Withheld | This is not an imported-soil order. Reusable native soil, suitability, shrink/swell, compaction and final grading require field decisions. |
| Earthwork | Primary trench excavationField geometry withheld | Withheld | Withheld | Withheld | No allowance for swell, over-excavation, unstable soil, dewatering, spoil haul-off, trench protection or contractor means and methods. |
| Earthwork | Tank bedding materialApproved tank exterior dimensions are not entered | TBD | Withheld | Withheld | Select the approved tank and enter its exterior dimensions before estimating bedding. |
| Accessories | Cleanouts, couplings, flexible boots, adapters and sealantsWatertight compatible components at each approved connection and change in direction | TBD from routed plan and selected products | Contractor / product takeoff | Verify on site | Exact count depends on pipe stock lengths, route, tank openings, distribution product and local cleanout requirements. |
| Site work | Safety, dewatering, erosion control and restoration materialsProtective systems, pumps, barriers, stabilization, topsoil and seed as site conditions require | TBD after utility locating and field assessment | Site-specific contractor takeoff | Verify on site | A competent person, permit documents and actual groundwater / soil conditions determine these materials. |
| Protected reserve | Replacement-area materialsReserve area withheld | 0 installed in the current concept | No pipe or media included | Withheld | The reserve is protected soil, not a second field material order, unless an approved phased construction plan explicitly requires it. |

Before excavation
A calculation is only one part of a safe system.
Protect the treatment soil, obtain approvals and require inspection before covering any component. Never enter a septic tank: toxic gases, oxygen deficiency and collapse can kill within minutes.
